What types of activities will the intern do:

The Visitor Program Internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing careers in visual arts while gaining skills in community engagement, informal education, and nonprofit work in a museum & theatre setting.

As an integral part of the Visitor Program department, this intern will reinforce the primary responsibilities of the VP team, including supporting daily MakerSpace sessions, intergenerational programming & community outreach, creating a welcoming environment for groups visiting the museum, as well as a focus on access, equity, and inclusion on behalf of our daily visitors.

The Makerspace will be a major component of the daily schedule during the internship. This is an interactive and creative exhibit space that may serve hundreds of participants each day. Interns will be responsible for resetting and restocking materials, welcoming guests and adhering to accessibility guidelines. A primary goal of this position is to create exciting multimedia opportunities for our Makerspace guests. Interns will work with, and be supported by, the VP team to develop visual arts projects and themes within a flow-through framework.

The Visual Arts intern will support daily programming and have access to learning flow-through, STEAM-based informal teaching skills as well as group & classroom management, including the IDEXX Learning Lab and other exhibit spaces as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS -Coursework and/or fieldwork in hospitality, community engagement, early childhood education, education, or related field -Experience interacting with children -Experience leading interactive and engaging programs and/or experience with customer service preferred
