Internships

Do you know your interests, but you're not sure how to make them into a career in Tourism & Hospitality? Apply for a PAID internship, and we'll help you get through the guesswork, leaving you free to try a career and see if it's right for you!

The Maine Tourism Association is working with schools across Maine to give students in their sophomore year and above the opportunity to intern with Tourism and Hospitality businesses that fits their interests. We are able to recommend these internships through two different pathways: 1) the Manpower Maine Career Exploration Program
and 2) the JMG Maine Career Exploration Badge.
The Manpower Maine Career Exploration Program is an opportunity for 16-24 year old students who have strong career exploration goals and want to intern in a position that typically requires a high school diploma or higher education. This internship provides up to 75-hours of paid work experience at a participating business in your region.
You are required to pay taxes on the amount that you earn.
This internship is currently available through the end of August 2024.
*The current Maine minimum wage rate is $13.80/hr except in Portland and Rockland where minimum wage is $14/hr.
The JMG Maine Career Exploration Badge is a 40-hour internship available to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors of any age. By taking part in the MCEB you gain hands-on experience in the field, seeing what it's really like to work in the industry and building connections for future opportunities. Upon completing the MCEB requirements, you will receive a $500 academic award AND class credit from your school!
This internship must b e completed by Dec. 31, 2024. Participating students are NOT required to be enrolled in JMG to take part in the internship or receive the $500 academic award and class credit, but participants are required to have completed all JMG-MCEB coursework before being placed in an internship. If your school does not have a JMG teacher on campus, a teacher from your school MUST coordinate with JMG and help facilitate their program.
Further details will come from this MCEB coordinator after you complete the initial coursework and apply for the internship. You may only take part in the JMG internship and receive the award & credit once
Not only does an internship give you the chance to try a career before committing to it, but it also looks great on a resume AND college applications! Invest in your future with an MTA internship!
