Trail Stewardship Internship

Do you love being outdoors, riding bikes, and completing projects? The Eastern Trail Alliance (ETA) seeks applications for up to two trail stewardship internship positions during the summer of 2025. The ETA builds, maintains, and promotes the Eastern Trail, southern Maine's premier multi-use greenway. The Eastern Trail is a visionary plan for a long-distance walking and bicycling trail that will one day extend continuously from South Portland to Kittery. Today, there are more than 20 miles of completed off-road, multi-use trail in southern Maine.
This summer, we are seeking up to two trail stewardship interns that will report to and assist our Trail Manager in land management tasks such as trail maintenance and other tasks that require physical labor. This opportunity seeks interns that are passionate about outdoor recreation and trails, eager to spend the majority of their work hours outside, and excited about getting their hands dirty. Interns will assist the ETA Trail Manager in fixing fencing, drainage systems, and more. Interns should be prepared for strenuous activity on a non-motorized trail and to arrange their own transportation to/from trailheads from Scarborough to Kennebunk.
Access to a bicycle, along with the ability to ride it, is ideal. If you can ride but currently don't have access to a bike, we may be able to help with that. Interns will benefit from working in a small nonprofit environment in which everyone's work has immediate impact and opportunities to learn something new are endless. Start and end dates of internship are negotiable, hoping for roughly a seven week commitment.
20-40 hour internships are available from mid-June through the end of July. We look forward to having you join us!
