What types of activites will the intern do:

During this 10-12 week experience (starting no earlier than mid-May), Pioneers will have the chance to learn about and participate in Maine's aquaculture industry. Depending on which company you join, you will gain hands-on experience cultivating oysters, mussels, clams, or Atlantic salmon and learning about the business of running a farm. Be prepared to get dirty! If you're more into the research side of aquaculture, several of the participating companies will need your help with data collection and analysis, welcoming your interest and insights into the continued sustainability of the industry as a whole!


All Aquaculture Pioneer positions are full-time and are paid $15 per hour. All Pioneers will be required to attend a 2-day bootcamp on Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th at the Boothbay Sea and Science Center in East Boothbay, Maine (housing and meals to be provided). Pioneers will be enrolled in the Maine Career Catalyst Program as a part of their program acceptance and have access to all in-person and virtual events throughout Summer 2024. Pioneers will be required to register and attend a minimum of three (3) program events. Events range from networking to professional skill development to panel discussions to Maine exploration social activities. A schedule of required events will be provided no later than May 25th.
